Make
the major traffic paths no less than 48" wide and be careful not to route
them through the middle of conversation areas or between the TV and viewers.
Also, be sure to allow access to windows, bookcases, etc.
Allow a 3 foot clearance at interior doorways for the door swing, and a 4
foot swing at entrance doors.
Sofas and chairs should be placed in a group no further than 8 feet apart.
In dining spaces, leave at least 3 feet for chair pullout, and 2 feet for
elbow room. Thus, if you need to seat 10, you'll need a table (including
leaves) that measures 96 inches. More

How to define the design boundaries of
individual spaces?
Resolving this issue at floor level is simple, with the addition of rugs as one
method of resolution. A beautiful rug can easily add warmth and elegance, while
creating that necessary visual barrier between individual spaces. Through the
use of carefully positioned furniture, you can enclose spaces and direct traffic
flow, creating a more intimate setting. |
